Kendal freightyard, 8 a.m., July 24th, 1968: Black Five 44735, its driving wheels slipping on the dewy rails and the incline of the yard, gives a sensational display of running on the spot and takes four minutes to get moving with wagons from the coal sidings. |

After shunting the yard, 44735 picks up the brakevan. We ride the brakevan, coupled to the front of the locomotive, through the length of the yard and stop beyond the points. |
